CAAD President VJ Sarullo called the meeting to order at 12:20 pm.
Pledge of Allegiance
CIAC Update: Gregg Simon- Winter season sports committees are meeting now. Dan Scavone -Massachusetts has moved to 35 second shot clock so Hoopla Classic in Springfield will be a sanctioned event. Resources have been sent to schools, video and full document of rules, to help with training. Training sessions have been scheduled. Proposal tech foul as a player, leave the game until the next dead ball. Most coaches are taking the athlete out, but not all. Committees took into account all issues and concerns, offending athletes need to sit out one tick of the clock before they can re-enter. It does not carry over to the next game. Eligibility committee hearing cases of students leaving Hawaii due to their homes being destroyed and requesting waiver of transfer rule. Schools are encouraged to reach out to the CIAC if they have a student from Hawaii in this situation. A few proposals/items are being reviewed including Vo-Ag/Schools of choice, football scheduling and F1 Visas. League representatives are asked to remind members of the need to report scores in a timely manner.
CHSCA Update: On September 30, 2023 the CHSCA honored the Hall of Fame inductees at the UCONN Game. The Hall of Fame Banquet is May 9, 2024. Tickets are $65. E-Sports will have an all-state banquet on May 21, 2024. Membership cards have all been processed and mailed. A full list of all state banquets is on the CHSCA website.

Football statewide scheduling and eliminating TG Day from the Alliance(Reminder, the football scheduling submission is just a Proposal now). Also received is one to lengthen the winter season from the FCIAC.
3.0 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REPORT
3.1 Sponsor Update- Fred shared an update of the sponsors including new sponsors. Snap Mobile, Zolnier Championship Rings, BSN.
3.2 PD Day and LTI Registrations- Sponsors have been invited. 115 registered for PD
Day and 26 for LTI. Another notice will go out.
3.3 NIAAA Grants- Grant applications have been shared. Must be present 11/3 to receive.
3.4 Foundation Update- The Foundation is healthy and continues to support CAAD as
needed.
3.5 Delegates to NIAAA 2023 - Callis, Schmidt, MacNeil, Heck, Blumenthal will represent
CT.
3.6 Change on Board- Lynne Flint stepped down from the board. Matt Perachi
will take on social media and newsletter. VJ Sarullo who is already a member of seasons limitations will be the consultant.
3.7 Joe Canzanella Scholarship Donation- The CHSCA has started a scholarship
in Joe’s honor. Approval of motion that CAAD request a donation from the foundation to the scholarship fund in the amount of $500 (MacNeil/Schmidt)
4.0 OLD BUSINESS
4.1 Strategic Plan Update - Committee chairs updated the board on progress in
completing tasks of each objective. Chairs will provide a write up to Fred. All
tasks are scheduled to be completed in May 2024
4.2 CAAD/CHSCA Out of Season Rule Proposal Update- A link will be sent to each
member school principal for a final vote. The last survey was for the committee as if
change was wanted. This survey is the official vote to be presented to the Board of
Control. One vote per school. A video describing the various changes in the proposal
will be available.
4.3 Schools of Choice Berkshire Proposal Discussion- league representatives shared
feedback from their membership. Language will be cleared up to reflect feedback
and reviewed, then sent to the leagues for further discussion. An official vote will
be shared in January.
4.4 CCC Boys & Girls Lacrosse Proposal 3 to 4 division proposal- League counts were
reviewed and support is there to make this a CAAD proposal (102-21-3).
5.0 NEW BUSINESS
5.1 CAAD Awards- Anne MacNeil shared the list of award winners. Lynne Flint (State
Award of Merit), Steve Wodarski (DSA), Anthony Vitale (Foran), Ray DeAngelis, Art
Kohs, and Paul Mengold (Hall of Fame) will be honored at the conference banquet.
5.2 National Conference Door Prize- CT to continue with a chair (Witkin/Frassinelli)
5.3 Connecticut Reception at NIAAA Conference- NIAAA President Frassinelli will host
All CT attendees Friday evening in the presidential suite for anyone attending.
5.4 NIAAA Scholarship Essay Process- Fillable PDF will be available on the CAAD
Website shortly.
6.0 LEAGUE REPORTS
6.1 CRAL has accepted Hartford Public’s application for membership.
6.2 SCC Laurelton Hall AD position will be open shortly.
6.3 SWC Sportsmanship conference recently held at Bethel HS
7.0 CONSULTANT REPORTS
7.1 Awards- Anne MacNeil has asked league reps to share any AD’s at the 15, 20, 25
years of service mark.
7.2 DEIB- The DEIB reception at the National Conference will be held on Sunday, Dec.
17 from 6:15-7:45pm. Guest speaker for the event will be Esu Ma’at, Chief Diversity
And Inclusion Officer for the Orlando Magic. His theme “None of us, is as good as all
of us.”
7.3 Mentoring- Hilde Heck reported the monthly mentoring zooms continue. League
Reps are asked to make sure new AD’s are getting the links and to make sure they
have an assigned mentor.
7.4 Social Media- Matt Perachi is looking to grow CAAD’s instagram presence.
7.5 Retired AD’s- Please send information on retired or retiring AD’s to Joe Monroe.
7.6 Scholarship Committee- Heidi Schmidt is urging AD’s to make sure paperwork
submitted is complete. If scanning double-sided documents, make sure both sides
are being sent. Often they are incomplete. Please make sure submissions are on
CAAD’s version of the document so it gets to Heid in a timely manner.
7.7 Season Limitations- VJ Sarullo reminds AD’s to alert families of the new start dates
For the Fall of 2024 (starting Monday, not Thursday) as that impacts vacation time.
Also, be mindful of the early Labor Day, late Thanksgiving schedule next year. See
the blue book for dates.
7.8 Unified Sports- Doug Marchetti shared there are several corn hole and soccer
tournaments still to come. There is a trial flag football program underway. Schools
interested can contact Bob Hale to see if there are any extra kits available. Currently
There are 123 high school programs, 59 middle school programs, 33 elementary
Programs, and 22 Young Athlete (ages 2-7) programs. Next week is the Youth
Leadership Conference at Rocky Hill. A Russian delegation will be attending events
next week to learn more about the Unified Sports program.
